Welcome to the Joseph Rank Trust Web Site
Joseph Rank

The Joseph Rank Trust was established in June 2002. It represents an amalgamation of a number of charities established by the late Mr. Joseph Rank (1854 - 1943), or members of his family, during the period from October 1918 to April 1942. The Trust is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee.

We are an independent Christian grant-maker and work with all Christian denominations in the United Kingdom. The principal object of the Trust is "to advance the Christian Faith" - to further the Kingdom of God.

The original Trusts represented a practical expression of the strong Christian beliefs of their founder and his desire to advance the Christian faith and to help the less fortunate members of society.

Today the Trustees of the Trust seek to continue the work and generosity of Joseph Rank by pursuing specific areas of interest.

Joseph Rank Trust Updates

Methodist Church Fund
The Charity Commission has decided that public notice should be given of our proposal to make a Scheme. The Charity proposes that the purposes of the Methodist Church Fund should be changed to the general purposes of the Charity and that the Methodist Church Fund should be merged into the General Fund in order to allow the funds to be more meaningfully applied.

The current Methodist Church Fund purposes read as: "...the cash stated in the Second Schedule hereto (hereinafter referred to as "the Methodist Church Fund") Upon Trust for such charitable purposes connected with and for the benefit of the Methodist Church and to be applied in such manner as the trustees or if they shall be more than two in number the majority of such trustees shall in their absolute discretion think fit." And these would be amended to the purposes of the General Fund: "...for such charitable trust or purposes as the trustees for the time being...in their absolute discretion determine".

This would remove the current restriction to Methodism and broaden the potential beneficiaries beyond Methodism. However, Methodist Churches would continue to be eligible to apply for funding from the General Fund for all the matters for which they may currently be funded from the Methodist Church Fund. Comments or representations on these proposals can be made to the Charity within one month from 21st June 2024".
